New Video Game Releases For The Week Of December 28, 2014

2014 brings and end to the first full year of the next-gen consoles, and while we still did not have the one stand-out game that defines the next generation of consoles, there was plenty to be excited about in 2015. There are still a few new video games releases slated for this week, mostly PC indie titles with a few virtual console titles from Nintendo for the 3DS and WiiU.

The two new video game releases from Nintendo for this week are Virtual Console releases for the Wii U and the 3DS/2DS. Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire is the Wii U’s offering. The Jupiter-developed title from 2003 was originally created for the GameBoy Advance and released on August 25, 2003 in North America, the 25th anniversary of Pokémon Red & Blue. While the core mechanic of traditional pinball is intact by racking up a high score through hitting targets and drops, the ability to collect Pokémon is also included in one of the four game modes: Catch ‘Em Mode, Egg Mode, Evolution Mode, and Travel Mode. Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire will release on the WiiU on January 1, 2015 for $7.99.

The other offering from Nintendo is Bionic Commando: Elite Forces. Originally released in 1999 for the GameBoy Color, it will make its debut on the Virtual Console for the 3Ds on January 1, 2015. The game is a sequel to the GameBoy version of Bionic Commando, which launched in 1992. It was the first game developed by NST, the North American development arm of Nintendo, and was part of a series that would be later published by Capcom. It offered the ability to play as an unnamed male and female commando, sniper rifle sections, and a different plot from the NES series, though it still maintains the side scrolling game play. Bionic Commando: Elite Forces will release on January 1, 2015 for $5.99.

Indie PC titles that are slated for release this week include RTS The Battles of King Arthur from simulator publishing house Excalibur. Sekai Project is releasing the all-ages version of the visual novel Nekopara Vol. 1 on their official site along with the R-18 version. Rounding off the list is post-apocolytpic indie MMO Xsyon, which is receiving a full Steam release.
