Nico Carlisle and another unidentified suspect broke into an innocent woman’s home on Tuesday, December 23. Most likely, their purpose was to steal belongings such as Christmas gifts, money, and other valuables. Unfortunately, Carlisle got much more than what he bargained for because he lost his life in the process.
According to WREG, the two men entered the Memphis, Tennessee home around 6:30 p.m. that evening. They reportedly knocked on the door to see if anyone was home. When the homeowner answered the door, the intruders forced their way through the front door. Carlisle allegedly put a gun to the woman’s neck, reports the Blaze.
However, what he didn’t see was the handgun she’d grabbed before answering the door. She reportedly fired and hit Carlisle multiple times. The 22-year-old intruder was found lying near the from door of the home when police arrived. He was later pronounced dead at the scene of the crime.
Neighbors nearby reportedly heard the commotion. They were finishing up last-minute Christmas preparations when the heard “frightening sounds,” reports My Fox Memphis.
“Some people’s families don’t have anything for their kids so they think they can go out and rob other folks,” another neighbor said. “It’s just crazy.”
Although Carlisle’s attempted home invasion was a botched job, several media outlets are also reporting that this is not his first offense. This time, he just picked the wrong home. According to Wounded American Warrior, Carlisle has a lengthy history with aggravated burglary, theft, and assault. He’s also been arrested several times over the past couple years.
Here are some of the details.
Since the second intruder escaped, the Memphis Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 528-CASH. Authorities have also stated that the homeowner has not been charged with Carlisle’s murder.
