One Direction Star Liam Payne Is He Getting Engaged To Sophia Smith?
As One Direction star Liam Payne is spotted shopping in upmarket jewellery store Tiffany’s with girlfriend Sophia Smith speculation is growing that the couple may be about to get engaged.
OK Magazine says that One Direction singer Liam has “sent his fans into a spin after being snapped jewellery shopping in Tiffany’s.” Payne and his band mates, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan have been in New York City for the last week or so. Liam and One Direction had been in New York for an appearance on Saturday Night Live. The popular boy band sang two songs, “Night Changes” and “Ready to Run,” and attended an after-show party. Liam and his pals have stayed on in the city for a pre-Christmas holiday.
Metro reports that Liam Payne popped out to a jewellery store and now the whole world has decided he’s popped the question. Liam and girlfriend Sophia Smith were spotted browsing Tiffany’s before emerging with that iconic little blue bag.
Liam added to the speculation by tweeting the lyrics to a song about asking a girl’s father for his blessing to propose to his daughter.

After Liam tweeted the line and pictures were posted of the two in the upmarket store twitter went crazy. One directions fans are famously possessive over their idols and Sophia was subjected to a barrage of insulting messages when it first emerged that she and Liam were a couple. In recent times though Liam’s fans have become much more accepting of the longstanding romance. In fact many fans took to twitter encouraging Liam to pop the question.
The news is possibly taking their minds of the fact that Harry Styles has been spotted again with Victoria’s Secret model Nadine Leopold. There has been speculation that the two are dating, meaning that it is likely that Harry is off the dating market too.
Whilst the speculation surrounding Liam and Sophia is considerable the Daily Mail suggests that it is more likely that the couple were actually just using Liam’s trip to New York, as an excuse to do some last minute Christmas shopping.
After their trip to Tiffany & Co., they were later spotted at a Rolex shop before stopping for lunch at McDonalds.
Liam and Sophia, with whom he attended St. Peter’s Collegiate in Wolverhampton before finding fame with his band mates on talent show The X Factor, were first linked in August 2013.
The Mail says that a source told the Sunday Mirror: ‘Liam has really fallen for her. It’s getting very serious, very fast.’
Hollywood life says that “We think it’d be a great idea for Liam to propose to Sophia, who was also his childhood crush, over the holidays! After all, Zayn Malik is also getting married soon. They could help each other plans their weddings!”
It could be that Liam was just picking up some expensive Christmas gifts for friends and family but fans are convinced that Liam Payne is about to pop the question, if he hasn’t already.
