‘Legend Of Korra:’ Does Season Four Finale Suggest A Lesbian Love Story? [Spoilers]

Legend Of Korra was the highly anticipated continuation to the much loved series Avatar: The Last Airbender. Ang’s multiple abilities were passed onto Korra who took up the title of Avatar for four seasons. It wasn’t long before Legend of Korra had its own fan base.

Sadly, it was a fan base that dwindled during season three. Soon after, it was moved off of the television stream and into digital form. A blow to both fans and creators alike.

Now, Legend of Korra fans get another shock with the release of the show’s final episodes.

The Huffington Post calls the end of the series a “win for fans,” as it seems the Korra/Asami relationship was confirmed in the final moments.

After the threat from Kuvira is handled, the series closes on Korra and Asami holding hands and going off into the spirit world together. Then Korrasami supporters around the world let out a scream of joy. The fan ship finally seems to be official.

One of the most fan-supported ships seems to have official backing. A fairly progressive move for a cartoon.

However, the scene is kept rather innocent with the two female characters just holding hands. Fans have taken it a bit further, making GIFs where the two, Korra and Asami, kiss.

Throughout the series, especially the later seasons, a close relationship was maintained between the two. They would exchange letters that could potentially hide intimate meaning behind the words. Asami wrote, “Korra, I miss you,” a simple line that can be interpreted many ways.

Regardless of Nickledeon’s intent, fans are loving the final scene of Legend of Korra.

What’s next for Avatar fans? The end of Legend of Korra could mean the end of a beloved franchise. A thought that some fans cannot fathom.

That’s why there is a petition to create more stories set in the Avatar universe. The petition, which is hosted on Change.org, currently has over 16,000 supporters, but needs almost 1.5 million more. Michael Sato, the creator of the petition, gives heartfelt reasons to continue the franchise.

Arguably, Avatar the Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra has been the most successful animation franchise in America. Millions, including myself, have grown up watching such delicately crafted stories that have not only provided us with something to look forward to each week, but have also taught us some of the most valuable lessons of life.

How do you feel about the hint of a lesbian relationship in Legend of Korra? Will you be signing the petition for more Avatar stories?
