Mel B Accidental Overdose: Singer Reportedly Mixed Tranquilizers And Alcohol

Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown (also known as “Mel B”) was hospitalized in London last week due to an accidental overdose.

Radar Online reported on Saturday that the singer mixed alcohol and tranquilizers together.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, a lot of rumors have circulated about her recent separation from her husband, Stephen Belafonte — including rumors claiming that he physically abused her.

The 39-year-old singer also did not appear for a live taping of the British version of X Factor due to being seen at the hospital allegedly for severe stomach pains.

However, an inside source revealed to Radar Online that the real reason for Mel B’s recent hospitalization was an accidental overdose.

“[Mel B] was hospitalized because she mixed tranquilizers, including Xanax, with alcohol.”

The insider went on to clarify that Mel B’s overdose was strictly accidental and there were no suicidal tendencies involved. The source also explained the weighty pressure that Melanie has been dealing with since she arrived to London.

“It was absolutely accidental, and not intentional. She wasn’t suicidal, but the pressure of being back in London brought a lot of unresolved issues to the surface concerning being estranged from mother, Andrea, and the rest of her family.”

Reports claim that Andrea was the one that hinted at her daughter being physically abused. It was also Andrea that allegedly received a “vile abusive” phone call from Mel B’s now-estranged husband, Stephen Belafonte, and targeted him specifically in an extraordinary Twitter rant, according to Daily Mail.

In regards to Mel B’s mental and physical state, the insider explained that her high stress levels have taken their toll on the singer in recent weeks.

Radar reports that doctors in London have provided Mel B with the medical clearance that she needs in order to return to the United States. However, the inside source explained that her current state of vulnerability is what is preventing her from leaving just yet which is why she is depending heavily on the assistance of her psychiatrist, Dr. Charles Sophy.

“[Mel B] feels extremely vulnerable… She has been paralyzed with fear for the past week living in the hotel… The only person she feels safe with is Dr. [Charles] Sophy. The plan is for [Sophy] to go to the hotel, meet with her, and hopefully feel comfortable enough to get on the plane to come back to Los Angeles.”

Dr. Sophy was reportedly seen at LAX preparing to board a flight heading to London on Saturday afternoon.

Since their house is currently under construction, Stephen Belafonte is currently living in a Beverly Hills hotel along with his and Mel B’s 3-year-old daughter, Madison.
