WWE News: The Very Latest On Brock Lesnar’s WWE Status
There were reports a couple of days ago that WWE was putting a stop on all Brock Lesnar-related merchandise that was set to be produced in the coming months. However, those reports are false, as WWE is claiming that they have not put a stop to Lesnar-related merchandise, and they claim that new merchandise takes several months to produce.
As for Brock Lesnar re-signing with WWE, well, there is a feeling within WWE that he’ll demand far too much money, and that they won’t be able to afford him. There have been rumors that Vince McMahon is unhappy with Lesnar’s current contract, which Lesnar signed when he returned to WWE in 2012. McMahon feels like he overpaid to get Lesnar, especially now that WWE has gone away from the pay-per-view model.
There were quite a few people who noticed that Lesnar is down in weight, and that could very well be because he’s preparing for a return to mixed martial arts after WrestleMania 31. For those who don’t know, if Lesnar returns to MMA, he must weigh in at no more than 265 pounds, as that is the heavyweight weight-limit. Since he returned to WWE, he’s been around the 300 pound mark.
WWE is also concerned that the fans may turn on the Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns match, which has been scheduled to be the WrestleMania 31 main event since this past summer, much like they did with the Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar match back at WrestleMania 20 because they knew that both guys were leaving the company. In this case, they’d only know that one of the guys, Lesnar, is leaving the company. This could lead to WWE signing Lesnar to a one-month extension so that WWE can have the Reigns vs. Lesnar rematch for the title at the pay-per-view following WrestleMania 31, Extreme Rules.
Because of WWE’s concern over how the fans would react to the scheduled WrestleMania main event between Lesnar and Reigns, they are considering having Lesnar drop the title to John Cena at the Royal Rumble, and going with Reigns vs. Cena as the WrestleMania main event. They plan to push the fact that if Reigns beats Cena — who would be a 16-time world champion, tying Ric Flair’s record for most title wins — Reigns will have defeated the greatest champion in WWE history.
Another reason WWE is considering Cena vs. Reigns instead of Lesnar vs. Reigns is because they know if they book Cena vs. Reigns, Roman Reigns will be cheered, and cheered loudly, as the hardcore fans who attend WrestleMania hate John Cena, and would like nothing more than to see him lose.
Not only is Brock Lesnar’s future in WWE in the next four to five months uncertain, his future in general is still very much up in the air. However, as of right now, the feeling is that come next spring/summer, Brock Lesnar will be making his return to mixed martial arts.
