‘Weird’ Al Yankovic Trolls The Internet With ‘The Mysterious Floating Orb’ [Video]
The hilarious “Weird” Al Yankovic has returned with something new, and you won’t believe your eyes… at first. It seems he’s delving into magic now.
Yankovic has entertained the masses for decades now, most notably with his parody music videos and references to famous movies. Born Alfred Matthew Yankovic, he got his start with an accordion he received on his sixth birthday, which spawned not only his love for accordions, but also a long-running career spoofing pop culture.
He claims his parents chose the unusual instrument over the guitar because “[t]hey figured there should be at least one more accordion-playing Yankovic in the world… [They] chose the accordion because they were convinced it would revolutionize rock.”
The famed parody musician was a sophomore architecture student at Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo when he became a disc jockey for a local radio station and first adopted his school nickname “Weird Al” professionally. After recording a parody of “My Sharona” in a restroom stall (for the acoustics) and sending it to radio personality Dr. Demento, a star was born.

“Weird” Al Yankovic songs didn’t revolutionize rock, but he certainly spoofed his share of tracks in the genre. These covers have included Nirvana’s “Smell Like Teen Spirit,” Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust,” and several of Michael Jackson’s hits.
Now it appears Yankovic is taking on magic, at least as a distraction from everyday life. In the description for the video, he thanks “Justin Willman for showing me this stupid trick.”
Yankovic starts out with what appears to be a mysterious floating orb as he moves it toward the camera, and indeed he moves his hands away. The sphere appears to float as he feigns a sense of sarcastic wonder. Finally he moves away and reveals the orb to be nothing but a shiny soup ladle, telling us that “soup’s on.”
It appears “Weird” Al Yankovic has talents beyond music, and can still make us laugh for different reasons.
