Florida couple spend $155,000 cloning dog

People starving in Africa, and cloned dogs in Florida.
Nina and Edgar Otto are the proud owners of Lancelot Encore, a clone of their now deceased dog Lancelot, and become first couple in the United States to own a cloned pet.
The couple told local media that Lancelot Encore gave them another round with their much loved pet, and that he was identical in every way. The cost for the cloning: $155,000 via a San Francisco biotech company who works with a South Korean firm for the cloning.
Dog cloning isn’t a rare as you’d think, although usually it’s Governments paying for the service. The South Korean Government pays $43,840 a go to clone sniffer dogs through the same company.
From a scientific viewpoint, there is a wow factor, but seriously: $155,000 for a golden lab? Insanity, and obscene.

I am talking about the case of the couple cloning their dog. Every time I think about this, I feel as if firecrackers are going off in my head, my sense of rage and injustice is so strong. I actually tried to find an email for these people. I wanted to ask them how they can justify doing something like this when there are people, children, starving to death in this world. I do not care if they already give money to charity—spending that kind of money to clone a dog is just disgusting. That kind of money could do so much good, but they have selfishly thrown it away, and for what? To have a dog that looks exactly like the old one? Where and when will we draw the line between what we need, want, and what we actually do for ourselves? We all spend money on things that we don’t need—I am certainly guilty of this. But I would like to think that I would never be capable of wasting money in the way that has become glorified in America. These kinds of actions seem to be encouraged. Greed is okay. Overspending is okay. In my opinion, these people might as well have gone up to a family living in a homeless shelter and spit in their face. I would like to see them write out the check while sitting beside someone who hadn’t eaten in a couple of days.

People can do what they want with their money. Judge all you want, vicarious individuals.

Good call, Rachel, next we should go after anyone who buys art, including the government. Shameful, spending money on something that can't even play with you and love you like a favorite pet.
Christ, relax, it's better for your heart.. Those firecrackers shouldn't be going off. Unless you send off most of your discretionary income on Africa, you're just spewing hot air to make yourself feel righteous.
