PS4 ‘Until Dawn’: If This Walkthrough Doesn’t Scare You, You’re Probably Wearing The Mask

The PS4 exclusive Until Dawn is a rare video game entry in the slasher genre, even though with titles like this and Summer Camp, the “rarity” part is slowly going away.

While what you’re about to see isn’t the first time a hack-and-slash, stalking killer story has been attempted in this medium, it’s certainly the most effective.

That’s because the PlayStation 4’s graphics have advanced enough to where you get a fluid, movie-like experience. It also owes something to the setups and the storytelling.

Until Dawn follows eight friends who become trapped on a remote mountain getaway.

Things quickly turn sinister and they start to suspect they’re not alone, which is confirmed as the masked villain makes himself known. The cool thing about this is that the decisions of each character, no matter how large or small, affect the outcome of the game as a whole.

In other words, you don’t get the same experience every time you sit down to play, and the possibilities are more numerous than most games with similar AI as you can see from the walkthrough.

You’re in a position where you have to make snap decisions, and any one of them could either spare your life or get you sawed in two.

The only bad thing about PS4’s Until Dawn is we didn’t have it in time for Halloween. Still, better late than never. Take a look at this confrontation from a walkthrough of the game and try to hold it together.

If the young lady in the towel sounds familiar, that’s because she’s Hayden Panettiere, of Heroes and Nashville.

“This play-through represents only one of the many different paths possible,” explains PlayStation’s YouTube channel. “Each split-second decision you make as you play could put you on a new path. Any single decision may not be fatal, but your actions could have deadly consequences for your character later in the story.”

While some have complained that the animations aren’t as fluid as they should be for a PS4 game and that the towel stays on through a frantic and claustrophobic foot chase, this captures enough of the old Friday the 13th movie fun that I’ll be one of the first in line on release day. Still not sure when that will be, though.

What did you think about this sneak peek from PS4 of Until Dawn? Are slasher games/movies your cup of tea, and what are some others on the gaming end that are worth a look?
