WWE News: Dean Ambrose Says The Shield Ganged Up On People Backstage

The Shield, without a doubt, is one of the best factions in professional wrestling history. Dean Ambrose held the United States championship for a long period of time, and the tag-team of Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins held the WWE Tag-Team championship during their run as the top faction in WWE. After they broke up, each individual went on to be very successful in their respective paths. Rollins, Reigns, and Ambrose arguably run the WWE with their nonstop success.

Rollins is the company’s top heel, Ambrose is the WWE’s top face (even more than Cena), and Reigns just returned to Monday Night Raw last night to a monstrous pop. He’s the clear face of the company when Cena takes a step down. All three men have a place in the future of the WWE. However, there came a time when that might not have happened.

Dean Ambrose was on Talk is Jericho and spoke about how the Shield almost lost to John Cena at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view two years ago, which could’ve derailed their success. Ambrose also admits that the Shield ran the show backstage.

“We’ve gone in, like the three of us, and protested everything. If we don’t like something, we were like terrors to them because it’s going to be ‘oh god, The Shield’s not going to like this’ and then two seconds later we’re in the office, ‘uh, yeah, we don’t like this.’ Not that we’re like jerks but, you know.”

“They wanted us to, I think it was like our second or third pay-per-view, it was like right before our first WrestleMania, it was like a six-man on a pay-per-view, the finish was Cena over with the schmutz. And we’re like, as soon as we go down to John, we’re just like everybody else because that’s what he does to everybody else. There will be a time where we’ll do that all day and that’s fine but it’s not today. Otherwise, why are we even here? We went into that pay-per-view like ‘we’re not doing it,’ more or less. We didn’t have to because there was enough people on our side, and it was brought up, but it was one of those things where, like, we were always on the same side, one-for-all, all-for-one. If we didn’t like something it would be like ‘nope, not happening’ because there are three of us and it’s hard to gang up on all three of us. So we would gang up on people to get our way, kind of thing.”

What would the repercussions have been if the Shield did lose to Cena before their first WrestleMania? That would not have affected the IWC much, but for the rest of the fan base in the WWE, it very well could have. Remember, one loss could make or break a career.

After months of running rampant throughout the WWE, the Shield seemed truly unbeatable. Rollins was the athletic, technical worker. Roman Reigns brought the power game to the table. He was a freight train, ready to run the next opponent over on his way to victory. As for Ambrose, he provided the crazy antics that also brought with it the mic skills needed to rise in the company.

Each person brought a piece to the Shield that truly made them special. That is why each of them is succeeding in their singles’ run now. The Shield will not be done forever. The proof came just last year, as Evolution made their return to WWE TV. A big difference is that none of them are part-time guys, like Batista or Triple H. One last question still remains: what would’ve happened if the Shield lost to Cena?
