Is Amber Portwood’s Boyfriend Bad News? Source Claims ‘Older Man’ Has A Criminal Record

Amber Portwood’s boyfriend’s identity has been revealed. In a new report, the Teen Mom is said to be dating 43-year-old Matthew Baier, a Boston native with a criminal background.

For the last few months, Portwood has been tweeting about her love but keeping his identity a secret. As the Inquisitr reported in November, the reality star recently began sharing photos of her man, but none of the photos included his face. In one photo, Amber Portwood’s boyfriend showed off an arm tattoo in her honor. The ink read, “Amber,” and was surrounded by a heart and a music note.

According to a new report, Portwood’s secrecy may have to do with her boyfriend’s shady past.

“In November 1991 — when Portwood was just an infant — Baier was arrested for issuing checks without funds in North Dakota’s Cass County Court. After pleading guilty, his sentencing was deferred for three months,” Radar Online reported on December 16. “In October 1992, Baier pled guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and driving without liability insurance.”

Amber Portwood’s boyfriend spent 30 days behind bars for his DUI.

“Two years later, he pled guilty to simple assault, or willfully causing injury to another person,” reported Radar. “In 1995, he was once again charged with issuing checks without funds, though the case was ultimately dismissed. The legal trouble didn’t end there. Twelve years later, Baier was issued a federal tax lien in Massachusetts for a shocking $28,543. The lien was ultimately discharged in 2008.”

Although there have been reports, via Inquisitr, claiming Portwood and Baier could be engaged, there has been no confirmation on the rumor from either party. However, Portwood did open up about Baier in an interview with Starcasm in September.

“I have been talking specifically to one person and I really do feel like I love him, but we’re not together. We’re taking things really slow. I have to get myself back in gear and tell myself, ‘Ok, I can trust men, I just have to not be naive.’ That’s a problem that I have because I’m very naive when it comes to love … I do believe that I trust this man. I hope that I can trust him.”

The cast of Teen Mom, including Portwood, Gary Shirley, Maci Bookout, Ryan Edwards, Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra, will return for Season 5 next year on MTV. No word yet on whether or not Amber Portwood’s boyfriend will appear on the show.
