Bill Cosby Breaks His Silence, Tells Media To ‘Stay Neutral’

Bill Cosby spoke to a New York Post reporter on Friday and had only a few brief comments before cutting the conversation short by saying, “They don’t want me talking to the media.”

Stacy Brown wrote that she reached Cosby, 77, at his home in Massachusetts. Cosby praised his wife and offered comments on the media handling of the sexual assault allegations that have been levelled against him.

On his wife, Camille Cosby.

“Love and the strength of womanhood. Let me say it again, love and the strength of womanhood. And, you could reverse it, the strength of womanhood and love.”

On the media.

“Let me say this. I only expect the black media to uphold the standards of excellence in journalism and when you do that you have to go in with a neutral mind.”

Brown notes that she herself often writes for African-American media. Cosby’s attorneys, Martin Singer and John B. Schmitt, have told Cosby not to speak with reporters.

Supermodel Beverly Johnson is only the latest woman to come forward with allegations that Cosby drugged her. She described an incident in the 1980s when she was auditioning for a role on The Cosby Show and the comedian invited her to his home. Cosby allegedly served her coffee that had been drugged. While Johnson left Cosby’s home before anything of a sexual nature occurred, several other Cosby accusers, including Johnson’s friend and fellow model Janice Dickinson, said they were also sexually assaulted.

The allegations now involve more than two dozen women and date back to the 1960s.

Johnson wrote in the pages of Vanity Fairabout her decision to go public.

“I had to use my voice as a sister, mother, and grandmother, and as a woman who knows that, according to the C.D.C., nearly one in five women has been sexually assaulted at some time in her life, and that women of color face an even higher attack rate.”

Recently, one of Cosby’s accusers, Tamara Green, filed a defamation lawsuit against the entertainer for “publicly branding” her a “liar” through his representative.

The Hollywood Reporter also reported that Cosby is being sued by a woman who claims Cosby assaulted her at the Playboy mansion when she was 15.

In response to the allegations, Cosby’s lawyers continue to frame the allegations as old and unsubstantiated as reported on December 7th by Variety.

“Over and over again, we have refuted these new unsubstantiated stories with documentary evidence, only to have a new uncorroborated story crop up out of the woodwork. When will it end? It is long past time for this media vilification of Mr. Cosby to stop.”
