‘Doctor Who’ Among Big Rides Rumored For New Theme Park

Rides based on popular BBC series such as Doctor Who and Top Gear are being rumored to be coming to the Paramount London theme park in the very near future. A new report by BBC News states that Doctor Who is just one of a number of different shows that Paramount London is looking to capitalize on the massive fanbase the show has engendered.

If Doctor Who does indeed come to a theme park in the UK, it won’t be there for quite a while. Paramount Studios isn’t due to open the new theme park until 2020. Some might wonder if a television show has enough cache to stay popular six years from now, but this is Doctor Who we’re talking about. Doctor Who has long been a show that British audiences simply adore and that love doesn’t stand to diminish much even by 2020.

Paramount London is going to be taking pieces of some of the BBC’s most loved shows, including Doctor Who.

In a statement about the additions to the upcoming park, Paramount said, “The BBC has played an instrumental role in shaping the British entertainment industry for nearly a century, creating some of the most iconic and cherished characters on TV and radio. It seems only right therefore that its programmes will be present at the new London Paramount Entertainment Resort, which will combine the glamour of Hollywood with the best of British culture.”

The upcoming park is said to be located in the Swanscombe peninsula in Kent. This location is just east of London. Obviously, the offerings from the BBC are not actually a part of Paramount studios, but the company realized early on that it needed to include characters like Doctor Who in order to really draw in audiences when the park opens. The theme park is also planning on adding other popular British characters like Sherlock.

There certainly is a bit of a gamble when going with Sherlock, Top Gear, and Doctor Who, but of the three it appears the time traveler is the safest choice. The show, which has featured some of the most well known British actors, is still going strong. Nothing is more indicative of just how popular the show is by the acclaim that is surrounding the upcoming Christmas special. A new trailer just hit the web that features the intrepid traveler meeting up with Santa Claus. The episode will likely be one of the most popular Doctor Who episodes in years.
