Is The ‘Transformers 5’ Director Coming From ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ As Film Goes Completely CGI?

The Transformers 5 director won’t be Michael Bay, despite Peter Cullen’s (the voice of Optimus Prime) request. However, the man in charge could be coming from the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot.

A lot of fans mistakenly believe that Michael Bay was the director behind the Turtles 2014 reboot, but it was actually Jonathan Liebesman who sat in the infamous chair. For those who hated that film, this could be horrible news for Transformers 5. Bay was simply the producer.

When asked about the Transformers 5 plot, Bay still had plenty to say to Indie Wire.

“There’s a lot that’s unexplored, but that’s for the next director to figure out. They’re hard movies to do and it takes every day for two years. They’re fun, but they’re hard.”

While it appears that notorious director Michael Bay is backing away from Hollywood, he says it’s quite the opposite.

“There’s kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make. I have a lot of stories to tell. And it’s about flexing new muscles.”

The new Transformers 5 director could be facing a whole new level of challenge aside from the story and figuring everything out. It’s been rumored that the upcoming film will take place entirely on Cybertron with no humans in sight, which might explain the lack of confirmations for any of the Transformers 5 cast.

Rumors are still flying that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Bruce Willis may be joining the new cast in preparation for a possible Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover, or they could be supplying voice talent for new CGI characters. Michael Bay will still oversee pre-production and a new cast, but he’s definitely leaving for other projects.

Critical fans of the franchise offered a collective cheer when Bay stepped down as the Transformers 5 director, but that cheer may turn to less positive sounds if Jonathan Liebesman of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 takes over.

Who do you think should take over the reins of the next film? Who do you think will direct the Transformers 5 cast for its release date in 2016?
