‘Batman V Superman’ News & Rumors: Jeremy Irons On Alfred, What About Commissioner Gordon?

The Batman v Superman production may be over, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have any news to report. Jeremy Irons — who plays Alfred Pennyworth — recently discussed his character and there are rumors about why we haven’t heard about the classic Batman character, Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon.

First to the non-spoilery news regarding the much awaited blockbuster. Jeremy Irons was cast to play Bruce Wayne’s (Ben Affleck) loyal butler, Alfred, and has recently made some comments to THR on what we can expect the character to be like on Zack Snyder’s version of the comic book stories.

As Snyder wanted a more mature Batman, which was reflected in Affleck’s casting (he is 42 years old), naturally we will see an older version of the beloved servant who helps Bruce Wayne keep his true identity hidden and is always there to support his master.

During a ceremony to pay tribute to his career at the Marrakech Film Festival in Morocco, Irons made news with some comments about his upcoming role in Batman v Superman. The British actor wouldn’t share much, but said that his role is limited, as Warner Bros. has put together a large ensemble that will set the stage for future DC Comics adaptations.

“He is quite a different Alfred than we have seen so far. Zack Snyder had very clear views about what he wanted. I would just say he’s more hands-on perhaps than just a butler.”

Even though the comments are brief and don’t really give away anything regarding the plot, we can deduce that the “hands-on” statement means that Alfred will see more action perhaps than in other versions. Those following news about the Batman v Superman production worry that Snyder will run out of screen time to feature these main characters.

In other news — and on these we warn you that there are possible SPOILERS ahead — there are rumors that one of the character, who is a main part of the Batman story, has not been cast for Batman v Superman. Who is it and why he will not appear in Snyder’s production?

Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon is a staple in most Batman films. However, he has not been cast because he is reportedly dead by the time the events of Batman v Superman take place. According to a report from Badass Digest, the Comish has been dead for a while, but the source doesn’t know why or who killed him.

The news also reveals that most of the action in Batman v Superman takes place in Metropolis, where Superman (Henry Cavill) lives and works — and so a dead Gordon is not that big of a deal. It also adds that Batman has been operating in Gotham City for 17 years. “… all that’s noted in the script is that there’s a memorial plaque to James Gordon. This explains why the role wasn’t cast for the film, at least,” the reports explain.
