Getty Images 2014 Awards And Transgender 2015 Predictions


While Getty Images rarely makes headlines as a company, their collection of press photos always accompanies the title. This popular, internationally-known Seattle-based stock photo agency is predicting a “gender blender” trend for 2015, and is also releasing their Getty Images “Year in Focus” awards for 2014.

Getty Images gives fans an opportunity to vote on their favorite images. In regards to voting, Getty Images indicates in their press release, “To view the full curation, please click here, where you can also vote for your favorite images of 2014 and share them via social media using #MostMoving and #YearinFocus.”

The images are compiled for free through their app, called Stream, and are gleaned from award-winning photographers that have covered almost one million news, sports, and entertainment events in 2014. Next Web reported that Stream also includes thousands of historic images.

Images selected for the 2014 roundup feature Air Malaysia’s jet crash, the Syrian conflict, protests in Hong Kong, Liberia’s Ebola epidemic, memorials for Robin Williams, the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Sochi 2014 Olympics, and more. Getty Images states, “2014’s most memorable photographs … an expert curation of the defining images and videos that encapsulate the global news and events of 2014 …”Year in Focus” captures the best of the best, showcasing 2014’s most important moments in the global world of news, sport, entertainment and archive anniversaries and obituaries.”

In 2014, Getty Images and iStock also announced a new contest for amateur photographers. The image industry giants indicated that all applicants for the #RePicture photo contest should be submitting images that, “Re-picture the world and break free from stereotypes.”

As for 2015, Getty Images has already published what they think will be the visual trends for the new year. Getty Images Director of Visual Trends, Pam Grossman, talked about the predictions during a December briefing webinar. The full details are compiled in the Getty Images free digital eBook. Predictions from their Creative In-Focus image trends 2015 webcast include ideas like wanderlust.

However, Getty Images predicts that the most trendy pictures of 2015 will include terms that denote being gender-neutral like gender blend, gender-blending, transgender men and women, and father. In particular, images of men in supportive family roles, working as caregivers for small children will be popular.
