Iggy Azalea Concert Has Protestors Stage ‘Die In’

Iggy Azalea is an Australian recording artist and model who has made her way to the United States and toured with some of the hottest names in hip hop and pop music. Until recently, she has avoided coming under fire from her peers, but we all knew that wouldn’t last for long, especially with her choice of singing genre.

Everyone is aware that rap is considered a large part of black culture. Iggy Azalea was one of the fortunate white singers to make her mark on the rap world, and as so, fans feel that she should stand up against black issues.

On Thursday, December 4, almost 200 protesters staged a “die in” outside of the auditorium that rapper Iggy Azalea was to perform Thursday night, reports KTLA 5. This specific demonstration is only one of the hundreds that are occurring throughout the nation, so it has fallen to the back burner.

Many of the protests are due to the unjust deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. However, the protest of Iggy Azalea is directly tied to the other protests. The protesting of Iggy Azalea is due to the love of black culture. Iggy Azalea is one of the few artists who have not spoken out against the unjust nature of the social issues that are affecting black people today, even though she has made her living through music that is considered part of the aesthetic trend that was inspired by black culture.

People in general are upset because there is so much silence in the music industry surrounding the recent killings that should be labeled as hate crimes, and extremely violent, especially when those who are responsible for the actions walk away. Iggy Azalea has not been known to speak out against controversial topics in the future.

Many well known stars are speaking out against Iggy Azalea because they feel as though she has entered black culture, but is unwilling to speak out against black problems. Azalea Banks has been quoted on E! Online as saying:

“It’s funny to see people Like Igloo Australia silent when these things happen…”

According to Iggy Azalea, political matters should not be used to increase or decrease a singer/rapper’s worth on stage, and that world issues should not “promote fan battles.”

Even though a full on protest was occurring outside of Iggy Azalea’s concert, the concert continued without any problems, inside or outside.
