6-Year-Old Michael Cattron Shoots Himself Dead Months After Mother’s Shotgun Death

A 6-year-old Chicago boy is dead after receiving a gunshot to the head. According to ABC-7, the boy, identified as 6-year-old Michael Cattron, allegedly shot himself in the head just after watching cartoons in a room in their townhouse. His grandmother, Latonia Mardis, does not believe that the boy killed himself. The Dupage County Sheriff’s department says that the death appears to be an accident, but is still investigating the case.

According to police records, 911 dispatchers received a call from the father of Michael Cattron, stating that he found his son on the floor in a pool of blood. When investigators arrived at the townhouse located in unincorporated Villa Park, they found the body of a boy who was unresponsive.

Law enforcement officials were told that at some point the boy was in a room watching cartoons with other children when he was suddenly shot to death, just after his biological father went outside to smoke a cigarette. A couple of stories have been told about how the child died. In one story, the boy wandered away, found the gun, and shot himself. In another story, the boy was shot accidentally by another child, possibly a cousin. Investigators are still trying to determine who fired the fatal shot.

Michael Cattron was later transported to a local hospital in Chicago, where he was pronounced dead. His grandfather, Pierre Curry, told The Chicago Tribune that news of his grandson’s death is unbelievable, and that it feels as if he is floating.

“It feels like I’m floating. I have to take deep, deep breaths. I just can’t believe it.”

About the tragedy, grandmother Latonia Mardis stated the following.

“Michael went into a room, went through some boxes, found a gun, and shot [himself] in the head. Now, he’s dead. It’s too much death in the family, killing. It’s just terrible out here.”

Mardis goes on to state that she will never believe that little Michael Cattron had the ability to shoot and kill himself. Cattron’s death comes months after his mother, Jasmine Curry, was shot to death in her car on a highway in Chicago. Michael Cattron began staying with his father in July of this year. Michael Cattron and Jasmine Curry’s deaths are not the only tragedies to happen in the family. According to ABC-7, Pierce Leroy Curry, brother to Jasmine Curry, was also killed in a shooting last year.

Jasmine Curry’s father, Pierre Curry, is disillusioned by the continued gun violence in Chicago’s inner cities. Last year, Inquisitr reported on the accidental shooting death of a 2-year-old boy, who shot himself with the family gun.
