Marco Reus Is A Wanted Man: Here’s Why All The Big Clubs Are Chasing Him

Marco Reus is not short of admirers.

Blessed with searing pace, fantastic dribbling ability, and incisive decision making, the German international is one of the most talented players in the game. And with a £20 million release clause in his contract, and no sign of Reus extending his stay at Borussia Dortmund, the sharks are circling.

Freewheeling big spenders Real Madrid were rumored to have secured an agreement for his signature, only for Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke to deny the claims. Next up, it was Manchester City who were reported to have joined the race, along with Manchester United and Arsenal. And then Steve Bates from the Sunday People revealed that Chelsea were in behind-the-scenes talks with Reus, and had surged ahead as favorites to sign the attacking midfielder. And finally, Germany legend Lothar Matthaus chipped in, urging the midfielder to shun advances from abroad and stay in Germany.

“The important thing is he stays in the Bundesliga. “It would be a pity if he left for Spain or England.”

Although Reus is currently injured and out of action until the new year, the speculation increases on a daily basis. But with so many other top players available for the right price, why are all the European giants so intent on signing Marco Reus?

One of the many qualities of Marco Reus is a rare ability to operate just as effectively on the left, right, or through the middle of the pitch. In the modern game, players that can interchange positions and help unlock a well-oiled tight defense are valued at a premium. And with the reputed buy-out clause a mere £19.6 million, Marco Reus looks a steal in an age where world class players are frequently valued in excess of £50 million.

Marco Reus is the complete footballer — a game-changer. He can comfortably lead the line, dribble at speed and pass with unerring accuracy. He is willing to sacrifice himself for the team, yet always carries a threat in his attacking play.

But if there are any reservations about Reus, it is his injury record. He is yet to enjoy a consistent, uninterrupted spell in the Dortmund side and recently damaged the same ankle joint that caused him to miss out on the chance to star at the World Cup in Brazil. But considering his young age, the undeniable potential and the fact that Reus would arrive without the baggage or scandals that have a habit of following star players, the boy from Dortmund remains a bargain.

There is little doubt all the teams that have ambitions of signing Marco Reus would benefit hugely from his talents. But with the riches on offer from England and Spain, it is increasingly unlikely that the man once billed “Rolls Reus” will be plying his trade in the Bundesliga next season.
