‘Uncharted 4’ Video Has Couple Dozen Cool Moments For PS4 Owners

Sony didn’t hold back during the Saturday keynote of the PlayStation Experience. The first game to be shown off for the PlayStation 4 was the highly anticipated Uncharted 4. The gameplay demo not only provided many cool moments, but also an amusing glitch that only served to prove that the demo was live and not pre-recorded.

The Uncharted 4 demo is full of the familiar gameplay elements that have been established by the previous three games. There’s running, climbing, jumping, and the utter massacre of enemy mercenaries.

Still, there are plenty of new elements that evolve the Uncharted gameplay though, along with the impressive graphics. Drake can use a climbing spike to help him climb now as well as a grappling hook to help swing from one place to another. This led to a cool moment where Drake jumped away from a grenade and then swung around a ledge to pummel a bad guy and snatch his gun in mid-air to use on another bad guy.

The environmentally driven moves and animations were easily the most impressive bit about the Uncharted 4 gameplay demo. They range from little stutter steps that Drake makes before jumping to the use of cover to the new ways to climb. It’s the familiar gameplay from before, but with all the title extras that the power of the PlayStation 4 can bring.

At one point in the demo, Drake fell to his death and then through the game world while trying to maneuver around the many ledges. While unintentional, this amusing moment proved that the demo was live and produced the following Tweet from Game Director Bruce Staley.

In a PlayStation Blog post, Naughty Dog revealed that the demo ran in real-time at 1080p and 30 frames per second (fps). Will Uncharted 4 hit 60 fps? That door was left open.

“It’s looking pretty spectacular already and we still have quite some time to optimize and refine our technology to make this the best looking and playing Uncharted game to date,” Community Manager Eric Monacelli explained.

Uncharted 4 is still listed as a 2015 release for the PlayStation 4. A late fall release, possibly November or October, seems the most likely for Naughty Dog’s latest.
