Nursing Female Pit Bull Is Cautiously Trapped By Rescuers – You Can’t Be Prepped For What Happened Next

No other species has been the recipient of as much negative publicity as the pit bull. Their muscular disposition and the alleged violent past have earned them the notoriety of being extremely vicious – a breed that will attack, many-a-times without provocation.

Hence the apprehension of the rescue members, who responded to calls on the night of Thanksgiving about a nursing pit bull, was quite justifiable. The rescue crew, who belong to Hope For Paws, a humanitarian dog rescue organization, exercised extreme precaution to ensure they were able to safely and humanely capture a female pit bull who had just given birth in a stranger’s yard.

This rescue was exceptionally complicated, owing to the fact that female dogs can get extremely protective about their newborns, apart from displaying highly aggressive territorial personalities. Moreover, the rescue crew had to not only rescues the dog, but also save her puppies as the first few hours and days are quite critical for them.

Carefully barricading all possible exit points with temporary fencing, the crew slowly started searching for the pit bull. Since animals like to protect their young by choosing a well-hidden spot, the pit bull, along with her puppies, was found nestled beneath a bush. Though it wasn’t initially clear, the dog had given birth to multiple babies, who were scampering to get some of her warmth.

Scared of approaching strangers, the pit bull started to evade them, but neighbors eventually helped the rescuers by ensuring the pit bull didn’t make a break for it. Once secured, the rescuers offered a nurturing touch, which the pit bull accepted very lovingly, clearly indicating she might have been a pet, and was subsequently abandoned, perhaps because she became pregnant.

Once she was captured, the rescuers went for the babies. Of the five puppies, one had sadly died before the crew had arrived, but the other four were quickly put in a bin that was lined with a blanket. To ensure complete compliance from the adult dog, the rescuers showed her the puppies and allowed her to ride alongside them to the veterinary care center.

Back at the center, the routine rehabilitation process was initiated, which involves eliminating the flea infestation and regular thorough baths, coupled with nutritious food. The group named the pit bull Lexus and the puppies, Beamer, Prius, Mercedes and Cooper. Though this might seem like a happy ending or beginning for Lexus, the story of her rescue doesn’t end there.

While getting treated for superficial infections, Lexus whimpered and the rescuers promptly had her scanned for internal troubles. Surely enough, Lexus had ingested a non-edible metallic object, which one hawk-eyed member of the staff identified as a cap of a coke bottle.

Not wanting to make Lexus endure surgery, her rescuers induced vomiting and thankfully Lexus managed to throw out the troubling object. Hope For Paws has confirmed that the mother and her brood are doing well, and they are looking for loving humans who wish to adopt the pit bulls.
