WWE News: CM Punk And Dana White To Meet Today At UFC 181

Is the UFC really competition with WWE? That’s the million-dollar question, and for the future of CM Punk, he’s on the verge of finding out the true answer to that question. In the Art of Wrestling podcast with Colt Cabana, he talked about the WWE making him sign a no-compete clause against the UFC. Punk wasn’t the only one to sign that, as Alberto Del Rio signed the same thing. Vince McMahon insists that the UFC isn’t competition, but he made them sign a no-compete to not go there.

While that sounds completely illogical, nobody’s been closer to the world of MMA than CM Punk. His excellent relationship with Rener Gracie, as well as the entire Gracie family, is documented and noticed. On occasion, Punk will be seen on Instagram or Twitter training with the Gracies. He’s an MMA enthusiast, and a huge UFC fan. That’s where things get interesting.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Dana White did show interest in at least talking to CM Punk about coming to the UFC. That chance will now turn into a reality. According to MMA Junkie, Punk will be in Las Vegas for UFC 181 tonight and discussion will take place.

“He left the WWE for whatever reason, he’s a huge fan of the UFC, he’s been training for a few years now, and he’s interested in fighting,” White told Rome. “I’m interested in talking to him. … CM Punk is coming to the show this weekend, and we’re going to talk.”

“He’s not a guy that we would do what we did with Brock; we threw Brock right to the wolves,” White said. “Brock started fighting all the top heavyweights in the world because of his wrestling background.

“CM Punk, we would bring him in just like any regular fighter, and he would fight a guy with a similar record to his, which is 0-0.”

This is a big chance for the UFC to finally compete with the WWE. Before there are comments about how I’m moronic, think about it for a moment. UFC is in a different demographic. They showcase real fighting, jiu-jitsu, tae-kwon-do, judo, and kickboxing to the world. The WWE cannot do that, because they are sports entertainment. UFC is a real sport that caters to the fighting fans.

The fact that Vince McMahon made Punk and Del Rio sign a no-compete clause proves that the UFC is on the verge of being competition. In a world that wants reality, the UFC is a great place to go. Dana White has done a phenomenal job at selling the UFC and marketing the fighting giant. Because of the UFC, boxing is literally an afterthought.

Along with CM Punk, Brock Lesnar is wanted by Bellator, and in a bad way. Of course, that will never happen. If Lesnar wants to fight again, which isn’t out of the question, the UFC will employ him in a heartbeat. If CM Punk goes to the UFC as well, there’s a giant fanbase the WWE will lose. And then, the UFC will be major competition to the WWE.
