Cat Survives Move To Hawaii In Box, Emaciated Feline Arrives At New Home Starved And Weak But Alive

It isn’t every day that a cat survives a move to Hawaii, especially when the fortunate feline in question makes the trip via a moving box without any food or water for the duration of the journey. This cat likely used up one of its nine lives during the month-long ordeal, which began in September of this year when a Virginia family hired a company to pack their belongings in preparation for a move to paradise in the Pacific.

The last time Ashley Barth saw her beloved cat Mee Moowe, she was preparing to make the big move from Suffolk, Virginia, to Hawaii. That’s when her fluffy companion Mee Moowe disappeared, according to WAVY 10. Barth and her family were so worried about the family pet that they postponed their move for three days, hoping the animal would return home. It didn’t. Barth explained how she felt when she couldn’t find her cat.

“I was really worried and starting to think the worst. Maybe she ran away, maybe the movers scared her and she decided it was too much noise and she took off.”

Thirty-six days after the cat’s mysterious disappearance, one of the moving boxes that had been shipped to the Aloha State started to meow.

To Barth’s surprise, the box contained a weak and underweight Mee Moowe. The kitty was so frail and emaciated that it could barely walk. A local veterinarian examined the animal and said the pet was suffering from starvation, which makes perfect sense considering it spent more than a month without nourishment.

Poor Mee Moowe was in terrible condition but alive. The animal suffered from anemia, and its eyes were crusted shut, reported News Max. After being reunited with Barth and her daughters, the cat didn’t want to be separated from them. Unfortunately, the reunion didn’t last long.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, an elderly woman survived five days lost in the desert after losing her way en route to a local casino. Like Mee Moowe the cat, the plucky 79-year-old woman from Arizona made it through an ordeal that could have killed her. Ethel Crescenzo suffered dehydration, scrapes and bruises but ultimately made it out alive after using rocks for pillows and bushes for shelter.

You might think when a cat survives a move to Hawaii after more than a month trapped in a box, the hard part would be over. Unfortunately, the cat’s arrival at the Barth family’s new home was premature, despite the 36-day journey by land and sea. Mee Moowe was supposed to remain in Virginia, staying at the home of a family member until it completed its required vaccinations. Instead, the cat is being kept in quarantine at a Hawaiian veterinarian’s office for three months at an estimated cost of $4,000.
