‘Big Brother 16’s Zach Rance: Team America ‘Really Pisses [Me] Off’

Big Brother 16 concluded a couple of months ago, but for some former contestants, details of the game still have an emotional impact. Zach Rance, who appeared with runner-up Cody Calafiore at a fan event over the Thanksgiving weekend, said the Team America twist “really pisses [me] off.”

As fans will remember, the Team America twist had three contestants in a secret alliance who performed tasks voted on by America. Big Brother viewers chose the members of Team America and voted on its missions.

Of all the Big Brother 16 contestants, it was Zach whose game, arguably, was most affected by Team America. Cody Calafiore admitted during the fan event that he was convinced Zach was the saboteur, a twist from a previous season that wasn’t actually part of the game this year. Instead, the members of Team America — Derrick, Frankie and Donny — wreaked havoc on the house on more than one occasion and set the blame on Zach.

Zach and Cody agreed that the Team America twist gave those players a huge advantage, as well as the chance to win extra money.

For the members of Team America, however, the twist left a lot to be desired as the exit interviews of Frankie Grande and Donny Thompson revealed. Grande told the Hollywood Reporter the game element didn’t ultimately work for him.

“Ultimately, I believe it was 100 percent detrimental. I trusted Derrick more than I should have and I spent most of my game protecting Donny rather than looking out for myself.”

He also told THR that he didn’t regret not using the Team America twist to save Donny since Donny would not have had the votes to stay. That sentiment was not shared by Donny in his THR exit interview.

“I think that if they had went with my idea, it would have been successful. America had put us together and I think America would have wanted us to work together longer. Frankie and Derrick are the brains of their large alliance. Besides Nicole, they controlled everybody in there. They knew I was capable of winning competitions, and that scared them so they got me before I could get them.”

Going back to the fan event, Cody and Zach seemed to have different opinions on their non-Team America alliances with Frankie. Cody said it kept him safe for a long time, while Zach’s “Zankie” alliance found him leaving the house early.

Big Brother has been renewed for another two seasons on CBS.
