Fashion Fairy Tale: Lagerfeld Chanel Film Starring Pharrell And Cara Delevingne [Video]

Karl Lagerfeld’s awaited short film for Chanel called Reincarnation starring Pharrell Williams and supermodel Cara Delevingne debuted on December 1, a day before the Paris-Salzburg fashion show.

The eight-minute short is like a scene from a fashion fairy tale wherein Pharrell plays a bellhop and Delevingne plays a waitress at a hotel. The duo even has their own paintings in the likeness of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria hanging on the walls of the hotel lobby.

As the hotel dies down, magic happens in the lobby and the duo start to waltz to the tune of “CC the World,” a ditty composed by Pharrell himself. We all know that Pharrell can croon, but what’s surprising is Delevingne’s soulful voice as she sings the second verse of the song.

The film was inspired by the real-life experience of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel when she visited a resort in Austria in 1954. The fashion designer was captivated by the bellhop’s jacket with pockets, and from then on, that became the iconic style of Chanel.

In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Lagerfeld talked about the film.

“There’s a touch of Pop Art in it. It’s not meant to be a historical reconstruction or something heavy like that. This is light and funny.”

Also in the film is Géraldine Chaplin, daughter of Charlie Chaplin, who reprised her role as Coco Chanel after viewers raved about her portrayal of the iconic designer in Lagerfeld’s film last year called The Return, reports New York Daily News.

According to Lagerfeld, it was Pharrell’s idea to work with Delevingne. Meanwhile, Delevingne has always wanted to sing, so Lagerfeld thought that this would be the best opportunity, especially with Pharrell on board.

When Delevingne heard the news that Pharrell was writing a duet for them to sing, the model was ecstatic.

“I was so happy, I think I screamed down the phone at him.”

Other personalities in the film include Chanel regulars Heidi Mount, Baptiste Giabiconi, and Lady Amanda Harlech, as well as Lagerfeld’s communications director Caroline Lebar.

The short film was created to support Channel’s ready-to-wear business line. Lagerfeld announced that Pharrell and Cara Delevingne will be reuniting for an ad campaign for the Paris-Salzburg collection.
