Rosario Dawson Has Adopted A 12-Year-Old Girl

Rosario Dawson has decided to adopt a 12-year-old girl. According to Page Six, the 35-year-old star became a mother in October. Adoption has always been an issue very close to home for Dawson, whose stepfather, Greg Dawson legally adopted her.

Back at the start of this year Dawson was busy promoting her film Gimme Shelter, which deals with adoption, and what happens to those children when they grow up in a dangerous environment. In the film, Dawson played a physically abusive drug addict, whose 16-year-old teenage daughter Apple becomes pregnant. Apple, played by Vanessa Hudgens is forced to live on her own for a short period of time before being welcomed into a shelter for pregnant teen women.

At the time she told Bullett magazine of the role. “I’d never played a character like that before and I really appreciate the themes in the film. I’ve had family members who struggled with drug addiction. My mom was a teenage mom. I work with shelters. She worked with shelters. I feel like its something that’s in my bones, so I thought, “Sure.” But I really had no idea just how heavy and dark it was actually going to get.”

Back in 2008 Rosario admitted to Latina magazine that she wanted to adopt.

“That idea has stayed in the back of my head, but lately, I’ve been thinking about it more. My mother and grandmother are extraordinary women, and they’re getting older. It struck me recently that one day I might be sitting around with my children, going, ‘Your grandma was an amazing woman; I really wish you could’ve known her.’.?.?. Whatever time I have, I want it.”

The star’s last high profile relationship was with Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle, which ended after a brief period of dating.

Currently the actress is busy promoting her new film Top Five opposite Chris Rock. In the film Dawson plays a reporter and single mother, but the new mom had to be convinced by her friend Rock to take on the role. As simple as the description was, for Rosario it was a stretch that she worried about taking on at the time.

Hopefully her current role as mommy will be just as rewarding.
