Did NBC Fire Nancy Snyderman? Network ‘Does Not Have Return Date’ For Chief Medical Correspondent

Did NBC fire Nancy Snyderman for violating a mandatory Ebola quarantine last month? The NBC News chief medical correspondent has not returned to the air yet, although she stated weeks ago that she would return in November.

The Daily Mail reports that Snyderman was one of several who were quarantined for 21 days after a member of their crew, Ashoka Mukpo, was diagnosed with Ebola. Synderman and the rest of the NBC crew were in Liberia when Mukpo contracted the illness. The doctor returned to New York where she was to spend a mandatory 21 days in isolation, but broke the rules and ventured out into public.

As previously reported in the Inquisitr, Dr. Nancy Snyderman apologized for ignoring the quarantine and went out to eat at the Peasant Grill in Hopewell, New Jersey. She was harshly criticized for her blatant disregard for the quarantine, with CNN legal analyst Paul Callan stating that she risked the health of people who were around her and “could face up to 60 days in prison.”

The Daily Mail writes that the fact that Snyderman ignored the quarantine was a “huge PR and credibility problem for NBC,” and that she is now viewed as a woman who put others at risk, not a trustworthy medical professional.

After the quarantine was up, NBC issued a statement regarding Snyderman’s return, stating that the doctor and her crew would return in November.

“While in Liberia Dr Nancy and her team delivered first class, first-hand reporting from the front lines of this tragic and monumental story. Their subsequent departure from Monrovia, their return to the U.S. and period of quarantine has been a challenging time. We have encouraged them – and they have agreed – to take some time off with their families and friends to help restore some normalcy to their lives. We very much look forward to their return next month.”

Although she intended to return to her job at NBC, there is no word on when that will happen or if the network intends to fire her. There is no confirmation that she has been let go, but CNN recently reported that NBC executives “do not have a return date for her.”
