‘Once Upon A Time’: Regina Becomes Evil Again, Maleficent Gets A Makeover [Video]

ABC recently released a Once Upon a Time promo a week too early, and Evil Regals will be excited by what they see.

This week’s episode is titled “Fall,” but the promo below appears to be for next week’s “Shattered Sight.” According to Spoiler TV, ABC probably made a mistake by releasing the promo a week too early.

In the video, it appears as though the Snow Queen has succeeded in casting the Spell of Shattered Sight. Unfortunately, Storybrooke’s latest curse makes Regina revert back to being the Evil Queen. She becomes obsessed with killing Snow White once again, and this leads to the sword fight scene below.

Evidently, the Spell of Shattered Sight also makes Snow and Charming behave badly — they end up locked up in the city jail. Hook also makes an appearance in the Once Upon a Time promo, but the curse doesn’t make him revert back to wearing his old 50-pound pirate costume. Killian can be seen falling down after stepping into a marble booby trap while an unknown character looks on. There’s one Peter Pan character who is known for his love of marbles: Lost Boy Tootles. The Lost Boys were brought back to Storybrooke, so perhaps the curse makes them team up against Hook.

During an interview with ET Online, actress Lana Parrilla talked about what the Spell of Shattered Sight means for her character and the rest of Storybrooke on Once Upon a Time.

“We get to become our worst selves and what does that mean? Regina is about to scare the living hell out of everyone, so I’m so excited that’s coming up.”

Hopefully Regina doesn’t get her hands on Maid Marian’s heart while she’s stuck in Evil Queen mode.

Speaking of which, ET Online teased that Outlaw Queen fans will get to witness a swoon-worthy scene between Regina and Robin Hood tonight before the curse is cast. However, Regina’s messy love life might not be her biggest problem — Lana Parrilla pointed out that villains rarely survive in fairy tales.

“A villain’s fate is always — ugh I don’t want to say the five letter word, but it starts with a ‘D’ and ending with an ‘H — and usually that’s how it ends. So Regina wants to fix things before she gets to that place.”

Regina hopes that she can change her fate by finding the author of Henry’s magical storybook, and the quest to track down its writer will continue during the second half of the season. However, the Evil Queen will have to deal with a trio of equally-wicked women first. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Cruella de Vil is coming to Storybrooke, and she’ll be joined by Ursula and Regina’s old pal Maleficent.

Regina wasn’t a very good friend to Maleficent — she almost killed the dark fairy, and poor Mal was transformed into a dragon and imprisoned beneath the clock tower. Dragon Maleficent was slain by Emma, but she didn’t exactly die; the last time Once Upon a Time viewers saw her, she was a terrifying zombie creature.

Luckily, Maleficent will be in her human form when she returns to OUAT, and she’s going to get a much-needed makeover. Actress Kristin Bauer van Straten donned a sad little headpiece during her first appearance as the dark fairy from Sleeping Beauty, and it looked more like a leather crown than horns.

Fortunately, Angelina Jolie’s magnificent Maleficent probably inspired the Once Upon a Time team to bring the character back with a better look, and OUAT costume designer Eduardo Castro recently talked to TV Guide about Maleficent’s upcoming makeover.

“One of the things I was sorry… I didn’t do [with] Maleficent was a much more elaborate headpiece. Now, the new headpiece will be more like the cartoon. And I think it’s going to be quite spectacular.”

Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent was transformed into a sympathetic character in Disney’s live-action movie about the popular Disney villain, so it’s possible that OUAT will also decide to redeem the dark fairy.

During her ET interview, Lana Parrilla hinted that the Evil Queen might not be the only bad girl who wants to rewrite Disney’s fairy tales.

“Villains deserve their happy endings, and I think that’s something we’re really going to explore on the back end [of the season].”

Perhaps Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Ursula will also decide that finding the author of Henry’s storybook is a worthy cause.

Once Upon a Time airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. You can check out what the Spell of Shattered Sight looks like descending on Storybrooke in the sneak peek below.
