‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2:’ Who Will Have A Bigger Role And Who Won’t

Director and writer James Gunn has been dropping quite a few hints about the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie. In a recent interview with Yahoo News, he said that Nebula is the “Boba Fett” of the series, and will play an important role in the next film. He also told his audience about one character that will not be making an appearance, even if it’s a disappointment.

Nebula was the daughter of Thanos and Gamora’s sister. She was an essential villain, one who survived in the end. Leading to the question, what will she be doing in the next Guardians movie? Gunn didn’t give a precise answer, but at least told us she’d be involved in a big way.

“I have so many plans for Nebula. I love Nebula. I fell in love with the design of Nebula. I cast the role around that design. I fell in love with Karen as a person, and I love the character of Nebula… she’s the Boba Fett of the movie.”

Karen Gillan played Nebula in the first film and famously shaved her head for the role. Turns out that even in among the slew of critically acclaimed performances in the Guardians of the Galaxy, Gillan stood out and will be getting plenty of future screen-time as a result. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Gunn wants more female characters in the Guardians sequel, keeping Nebula around might be a good way of doing it.

James Gunn has also been pretty specific about who will not appear in future Guardians of the Galaxy films, namely humans.

James Gunn insists that Peter Quill will be the only Earthling character in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but that doesn’t stop the fans from asking. In a recent chat with fans on his Facebook page, Gunn shot down Nova as another potential character for the sequel.

Nova is another earthling named Richard Rider who through an elaborate series of events is deputized into the Nova Corps by Rhomann Dey. He later uses the powers he receives in the corps to help Earth. Just as a reminder, the Nova Corps were the police forces in Guardians of the Galaxy that arrested Peter Quill and company and later defended Xander in the final battle scene. And Rhomann Dey was played by John C. Reilly.

Unfortunately for Nova fans, Gunn quickly ended speculation that he’d be featured in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

“I don’t want Nova right now because I think Quill being the only earthling is important. That serves the entire movie going audience and not just the handful of Nova fans. Sorry if that upsets you.”

That’s one closed door, but in the vast Guardians of the Galaxy universe there’s still lots of potential out there.
