Actress Veena Malik Gets 26-Year Sentence For Her ‘Blasphemous’ Wedding Scene

What could Bollywood actress Veena Malik have done that would get her sent to jail for 26 years?

According to a court in Pakistan, commit a certain act of “blasphemy.”

The offensive behavior in question came when Malik acted in a pretend wedding scene about the marriage of the Prophet Mohamed’s daughter.

The scene featuring Veena aired on the Geo TV channel. The event reportedly caused an outpouring of criticism across Pakistan.

The court issued a statement about the scene which featured Veena.

“The malicious acts of the proclaimed offenders ignited the sentiments of all the Muslims of the country and hurt the feelings, which cannot be taken lightly and there is need to strictly curb such tendency,”

Veena Malik was one of three charged and sentenced by the Pakistani “anti-terrorism” court. Malik’s husband, Asad Bashir Khan, was also sentenced to 26 years, as was Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman. Rahman is the chief executive for the largest media group in Pakistan.

In addition to the sentence, the trio are expected to pay about $12,500 and hand over their passports.

According to the Times of India, Veena Malik has since addressed the “shocking” ruling.

“We did not have any control over any television content that was aired. We were just a part of the show, where our mock marriage was organized.”

Veena Malik, who is currently in Dubai, plans to return to her native Pakistan to answer the charges.

“When the final verdict comes, it will do justice to me. Nothing bad is going to happen.”

There may be another reason that explains why Veena Malik is not afraid to return to Pakistan to answer the charges.

The court is located in the city of Gilgit, which happens to be in the area of Pakistan that is presently also claimed by India.

As it is not a proper providence of Pakistan, the rulings made by this court would not be recognized in any other part of the nation.

In other words, despite being hit with a 26-year sentence, there’s a good chance that Veena Malik may avoid the negative ramification associated with her controversial role after all.

Even so, Veena Malik is very upset about the ruling and wishes to clear her name.

“I have always been a person who faced troubles by looking it in the eye,” said Malik. “I have faced highs and lows in my life. But I am sure I haven’t done anything wrong.”

Although Malik considers herself a proud Muslim woman, her sexy style of dress and provocative behaviors have made her something of a target in recent years.
