Microsoft moves 960,000 Xbox 360 consoles during week of Black Friday

Microsoft today announced that the week of Black Friday was the biggest sales week in history for the Xbox 360. Between Saturday, November 19 and Friday, November 25, a total of 960,000 Xbox 360 consoles were sold in the US alone.

According to Microsoft, roughly 800,000 of those 960,000 Xbox 360s were sold within a 24 hour period, making Microsoft’s significant boost in sales all the more impressive.

The Kinect was also a big hit for Microsoft during the Black Friday sales-fest – the peripheral sold 750,000 units within that same week-long period. Those figures include Kinect hardware bundled in with new Xbox 360 consoles and standalone purchases.

“We have seen tremendous excitement from customers for our hot holiday gaming offers,” said Chris Homeister, senior vice president and general manager of Home Entertainment at Best Buy. “Xbox 360 was among the best-sellers at Best Buy this Black Friday, and is a testament to the continued popularity of the gaming category this holiday.”

Nintendo also released their sales data yesterday, boasting more than 500,000 units sold for Super Mario 3D Land since its launch on November 1, 535,000 copies of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword since its release last Sunday, and more than 500,000 Wii consoles sold during Black Friday.
