Meghan Trainor Sings ‘Racist’ Thanksgiving Carol On Jimmy Kimmel [Video]
Meghan Trainor has been making the rounds on late night talk shows since her hit “All About That Bass” blew up earlier this summer, but most of the time, it’s been to sing one of her signature tracks. Jimmy Kimmel’s writers, however, had something else in mind for Meghan on Tuesday’s show. Trainor appeared on Kimmel to perform an infomercial for an album of “real” Thanksgiving songs — complete with awkward family interactions.
Trainor’s “real” Thanksgiving songs live up to what many have experienced on particularly nightmarish holidays — including not getting to Thanksgiving at all (“My Flight Got Canceled in Denver (I’ll Be Sleeping at an Airport Quizno’s Tonight)”) and dealing with political drama at the dinner table (“Uncle Dan Hates Obama (And Won’t Shut Up About Benghazi)”). Meghan polished off the set with another common complaint (and request) — “Grandma’s a Racist (Pass the Yams).”

This isn’t the first time that Trainor’s music has been mashed up with the upcoming holiday. The love-it-or-hate-it Holderness family made an “All About That Baste” parody a few weeks ago — adding to an already insurmountable pile of spoofs of Meghan’s song.
Trainor’s rise to success has been nothing short of meteoric. She has gone from basically unknown to a household name over the course of only a few months; something that isn’t lost on Meghan, she told Rolling Stone.
“When the [“All About That Bass”] video first got sent to me, I cried. I remember being like, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore.’ And I edited the crap out of it: We need a different shot there, my face looks weird. And they did it for me, which is amazing. And now I look like a pop star! When I got signed as a songwriter, I immediately thought, ‘Oh, no one sees me as an artist because I don’t look good enough.’ So I shut down the whole idea. And now I hate that I ever doubted it. This is what I’m supposed to do.”
