Florida Man Accidentally Shoots Himself In Face During Argument With Wife

Pinellas Park Police report that 57-year-old Dennis Eugene Emery accidentally shot himself in the face and died while arguing with his wife, Francisca. According to Tampa Bay Times, police say the argument started at Emery’s home at 5271 87th Ave. N about 6 a.m when Emery was angry because he could not find his lighter.

In a fit of anger, Emery picked up a revolver, aimed it at the family dog and threatened to shoot the dog. Tampa Bay Times reveals that Emery pulled back the hammer on the gun in order to emphasize the seriousness of his threat to his wife.

Unfortunately, Emery made a huge mistake by pointing the gun at himself as he released the hammer. A bullet blew up in his face killing him.

Police report that when they arrived on the scene there were several family members outside and inside the residence when they found Emery, according to the St. Petersburg Tribune. Emery was pronounced dead on the scene.

Emery’s next door neighbor Dallas Collins tells My Fox Tampa Bay how badly he feels about his happening.

“It’s a shame. It’s a damn shame. I never figured him to be irresponsible with a handgun.”

Emery and his wife actually owned a total of thirteen border collies and Collins reports that the dog’s barking was a constant issue between Emery and his wife.

The Raw Story reports that Emery is no stranger to trouble with the law. Emery has actually had a total of 34 contacts with the Pinellas Park police since 2012.

In fact, Emery had been arrested three times within the last five days with charges including domestic battery and aggravated assault. All three charges were pending at the time of his death.

Tampa Bay Times reports the first of the most recent three arrests was on October 12 for domestic battery. The next on October 15 on charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest, and he was arrested again on October 17 for leaving the scene of a crash.

If we go back a little further into Emery’s legal history, Tampa Bay Times reveals that state records show he was “convicted of drunken driving in 1977, [convicted of] carrying a concealed weapon in 1978, and [convicted of] disorderly conduct and public intoxication in 1983.”

Emery was also charged with domestic violence in 2013, but records reveal that that particular case was dropped. My Fox Tampa Bay spoke with Pinellas Park police’s Sgt. Adam Geissenberger regarding the incident.

“We’re very close the holiday. Loss of life, regardless of the situation, is very tragic and now this family has to deal with the loss of a loved one very close to the holidays.”

Although Pinellas Police say Emery’s death appears to be accidental, they have not yet ruled out suicide.
