WWE News: Seth Rollins Claims The Shield’s Meteoric Rise Made People Very Uncomfortable

As we know by now, WWE’s former faction The Shield was a top group that WWE pushed heavily in their time. Many loved the group and thought all members would be stars when they eventually took their singles run. WWE split the group up over the weekend and immediately pushed all three to major positions in WWE. Rollins became The Authority’s handpicked guy for the future, while Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns went on face runs that took them into stardom.

However, when you become stars as quickly as The Shield did….it can be a bit bad for them. While you’d think it would be good to have a meteoric rise to a top position, it ended up not being a good thing backstage, at least for a little while. Seth Rollins recently spoke to Sam Roberts on his podcast about it on his show, claiming…

“We were put in a position to succeed, for sure. But a lot of people are put into positions to succeed and it doesn’t always pan out. There comes a point when you gotta deliver… If you get the ball and you drop the ball or you’re not successful in your attempts, then they’re going to give the ball to somebody else. It was on us to perform every time we were out there. That was something we took pride in, especially having the background that I had—Ambrose, too, I think. We relished the opportunity to take on the big guys in WWE right off the get-go.”

Rollins went on to say that the group came off very confident backstage due to the major rise and that was not well-liked among the boys, saying…

The Shield Titles

“It certainly rubbed people the wrong way, It was one of those things where it makes people uncomfortable. It puts people on the spot and they don’t like that. I think that over time, when you do steal the show night in and night out—when you do things you said you were going to do—it earns people’s respect. They jump on the bandwagon, so to speak. Over time, the guys that were haters—the guys that didn’t appreciate our attitude kind of jumped on board and wanted to be a part of the movement.”

It can come across weird when you’re at a place of employment for a number of years and then some new guys come in and get everything right away. Meanwhile, you’ve been there for years not getting any of the same things. It could come across undeserved, even though all three have talent. As Rollins claimed, when they earned everything, it came across far better to the boys.

It’s weird when you have unearned confidence after being given so much. However, WWE official believed in The Shield, and they were as hot as anything WWE had in years. So WWE rode that as long as they could until all men were better off as singles competitors. Despite the belief, they needed to prove that they were worth what they were given by WWE. Obviously they did just that and the rest is history. Now all three men are in positions where they could be major players in WWE for years to come.
