Super Smash Bros. Wii U Gets Rave Reviews, Pummels Competition

Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS has been out for a few months now, giving gamers a portable slice of the full HD action that was to come on the Wii U. This week, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has finally been released and it’s already demolishing the competition.

According to Forbes, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has beaten out all other newly-released hit games like Mario Kart 8 and Bayonetta 2. The Metacritic score for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U had an average of 94/100 on launch day. This places the new Wii U Smash Bros. game on Metacritic’s page of all-time best reviewed games.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is a beautifully polished, impeccably tight game,” says reviewer Jim Sterling. “While I’d have liked more 3DS integration, and the much-touted Amiibo inclusion isn’t anything to go crazy over, Nintendo presents an absolutely stellar fighting game that I’m finding very difficult to tear myself away from. It’s packed with diverse content, can be tailored to suit anybody’s needs, and most important of all – it’s a ridiculous amount of bloody fun!”

Nintendo anticipated that the release of the Wii U version of Smash Bros. would double the sales of the Wii U, and at this rate it seems likely that will come true. Polygon reported that the sales of the Wii U console have skyrocketed, and more Wii Us are expected to sell within the coming weeks–especially during the holiday season.

Some reviews of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U are unbelievably positive, including Gaming Trend which gave the Wii U fighting game a perfect 100. However, other review sites like Post Arcade and Kotaku are slightly more critical of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Post Arcade gave the game an 8/10, and Kotaku slams the game for having laggy online multiplayer and criticizes the modes eight Player Smash and Smash Tour.

While Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is outselling and out-rating many other video games, it still hasn’t reached the top spot. The new Grand Theft Auto game, Grand Theft Auto V, scores one point higher on Metacritic: 95/100. GTA V is expected to do even better when Rockstar Games finally releases the highly-anticipated Heists DLC to the game.

As expected, some retailers are offering incredible deals on the Wii U this Black Friday–including some cheap offers for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, itself. iDigitalTimes has all the details on Wii U Black Friday deals.
