Lindsey Vonn Getting Divorced

Lindsey Vonn and her husband Thomas are getting divorced. Vonn confirmed last night that she and her husband have started the divorce proceedings.

Vonn said:

“It is with great sadness that I announce that Thomas and I have begun divorce proceedings… This is an extremely difficult time in my personal life and I hope the media and my fans can respect my need for privacy on this matter. I will continue to be coached by the US Ski Team and look forward to competing the rest of the season.”

According to ABC, Thomas Vonn, who is Vonn’s coach and chief adviser, filed for divorce last Monday. The couple were married in April 2007.

Vonn skipped the season-opening World Cup slalom race on Sunday to rest her back. Vonn said that she plans to return to the slopes on Tuesday in Lake Louise, Alberta, to train for the next competition.

Vonn, who won the giant slalom last month in Soelden, Austria, became the fifth female skier to win all five Alpine disciplines. Vonn is a gold medalist and has 42 titles to her name.

Yahoo reports that Vonn recently began working with new coach Jeff Fergus this summer.
