Newt Gingrich Receives Major Newspaper Endorsement In New Hampshire

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is currently the GOP front runner in many presidential primary polls and now the Republican leader has received the endorsement of a major New Hampshire newspaper.

The Union Leader a conservative newspaper in the region announced their endorsement in a banner headline but their actual critique of Gingrich isn’t a glowing recommendation. According to the Leader Gingrich:

“Is by no means the perfect candidate,” while they add he’s “the best candidate who is actually running,” and has “the experience, the leadership qualities, and the vision to lead this country in these trying times.”

The Union Leader is considered an important voice because New Hampshire is one of the first voting states and is known to sway the opinion of voters to help one candidate over another. The papers support for John McCain is believed to be one of the major contributing factors that helped push McCain from the middle of the GOP pack to the front runner against Barack Obama.

According to Politico writer Maggie Haberman GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney had “assiduously courted the paper” and who was believed by many to be the GOP’s top choice to run against President Obama in 2012.

Speaking of the endorsement Gingrich’s New Hampshire state campaign director Andrew Hemingway told NBC News Sunday morning:

“We are honored to have the endorsement of the Union Leader,” and “This is an enormous boost to our campaign and further proof the the people of N.H. are wanting substance and solutions over soundbites and pandering.”

Who do you think deserves the GOP nomination for 2012?
