Xbox One Offering ‘Sunset Overdrive’ Free For A Day On Saturday

If you’ve not taken part in the exclusive “Awesomepocalypse” on the Xbox One, Microsoft is giving everyone a chance to try out Sunset Overdrive free. The game will available to play for free Saturday, November 22.

Sunset Overdrive can be downloaded for free starting at 12:01 a.m. ET Saturday morning / 10:01 p.m. PT Friday night for Xbox LIVE Gold members. The full game, featuring all of the missions and achievements, will be available for 24 hours.

That free copy of Sunset Overdrive will no longer be playable once 12:01 a.m. Sunday morning rolls around. However, all of your progress will be saved in case you decide to pick the game up at a later date.

As a fair warning, Sunset Overdrive is bright and cartoon-ish, but it is a decidedly adult game. There’s lots of vulgarity. Fortunately, Insomniac Games included a vulgarity filter that adds a beep every time a character swears. In a way, it actually makes some of the lines funnier.

The free Sunset Overdrive offer is part of the one-year anniversary celebration for the Xbox One that will feature free goodies like free movie rentals to all console owners. There will also be random rewards given to owners as well that range from console bundle to game DLC. You can check out the full list of offerings in this article I wrote for the Inquisitr.

Insominac Games will also be hosting a Twitch livestream on Monday, November 24 on the official Xbox Twitch channel. The stream is dedicated to showing off some the new weapons that are coming to the game.

The developer recently revealed in a Sunset TV episode that a weapon pack featuring four new instruments of destruction are coming soon. The first to be revealed is the Shield Buddy. This pops a bubble shield around your character when triggered and sends out a wave of bombs in the immediate area.

No release date or individual price has been announced for the weapons pack. It’s part of the $20 Season Pass for the game that also comes with two campaign expansions plus immediately unlocks six character outfits, two Amps, and two traps in Sunset Overdrive.

Microsoft previously stated that consumers will save $5 by purchasing the Season Pass individually versus buying the three pieces of DLC separately. That suggests the Weapons Pack will be around $5 to $8.33, depending on the cost of the expansion. The Season Pass can be purchased from the Xbox Store or retailer.
