Selena Gomez Talks Recording New Material For Interscope Album, New Tour

Selena Gomez probably didn’t leave a dry eye in the house as she delivered an intensely, emotional performance of her Justin Bieber-inspired anthem, “The Heart Wants It Wants” at the 2014 American Music Awards at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater on Sunday.

The starlet, who looked stunning in a rose-nude Giorgio Armani goddess dress, delivered one of the few spots in the show without back-up dancers or a band, and visibly held back tears during a touching performance backed by a montage of emotive images.

Since the AMAs, Selena has jumped 18 positions to No. 2 on Top 100 iTunes songs chart and the Top Pop Songs chart, and is coming for No.1.

“The Heart Wants What It Wants” is the lead single for Selena’s Greatest Hits album, For You, which drops today, November 24.

But before that all, Selena joined a slew of artists at the Red Carpet Radio AMAs presser in Los Angeles last week before the event. The 22-year-old was interviewed by a slew of radio stations about her new single, her album to come, and more.

Speaking to Ralphie Aversa, the New York-based host of syndicated radio show, Ralphie Tonight, Selena described “Heart” as a “bookmark.”

“It was a place where I’m going to start a whole new chapter of music,” the pop princess explained, referring to her +1 album that will come out on Interscope.

Recalling her state of mind before co-writing and recording “Heart,” Selena said, “Once I realized that, first off, I had something to talk about,” before adding, “If I was 15-years-old, what was I talking about love for?”

Opening up about the criticism she has received from the media for having a relationship with Justin, she said, “It’s my 20s. It’s supposed to be confusing.”

Gomez continued, “That’s when I decided that this is a really good time for me to share my heart, where I’m coming from, when I felt like I was being pulled in a million directions.”

She added, “Whether it was publicly or personally. My voice was heard.”

Dishing about her in-progress, new material, the starlet’s answer indicates incorporating her personal life into her new music — with “Heart” being a reference point — is how she means to carry on from this point. “I’m excited to be able to have my heart into my music now.”

Selena went on, “I have been writing and recording — now. I just started.” Asked to reveal who she is working with, the actress-singer laughed.

“I don’t wanna say just yet. You’ll see it. It’ll be all over Instagram soon,” she added.

Taylor Swift And Lorde

During that same interview, Selena was asked if her close pal, Taylor Swift, was still trying to convince her to join her in New York. To which, she replied that the pair dined the night before, and the 1989 songstress “brought it up again.”

Of a future New York move, Gomez said, “I honestly would love to go out there for a little while.”

She added, “I just don’t know when, and now [with] the new record it’s gonna be a minute, but I love New York.”

More details emerged in other interviews. With KissFM 96.1, the star revealed she will be extremely careful with her new album demos to prevent the leaks that occurred with her current “Greatest Hits” album.

“I’m probably going to be on lockdown. I’m literally going to hold on to it for as long as I can,”

Selena mentioned that she would be spending around a week with her family in Texas for Christmas, and then go back to the “studio for a couple of months.”

She added, “I will be working on some new stuff, and then by the time touring happens I’ll be able to — hopefully — play both records.”

In another interview with Gillian and HaZe with 98.7 Amp Detroit, Selena was asked what she was most excited about project-wise.

“It will probably be the next record. It’s exciting for me to start off with something like the ‘Heart,'” adding, “and then start leading into writing about all the other things that are going on in my life and have gone on in the past year or so.”

Gomez went on to say, “I’m excited to put more of my heart and soul into the next chapter of music.”

Asked about a tour, Selena said she was “going to be in the studio for a little bit longer and hopefully, I’ll be heading out on the road.”

After her AMAs performance, the starlet tweeted her over 24 million fans with a link to her new album, along with a note about her big night.

The songstress ended her “coming out” with pals including Taylor, Lorde and Karlie Kloss.

Look out 2015, Selena Gomez cometh.
