Reese Witherspoon Wants To Play Beyoncé In A Movie?

Reese Witherspoon is currently gaining critical attention for her ‘comeback’ role in Wild, but can she really pull off a feat by playing Beyoncé on the big screen? Well, we’re going to go out on a limb here and say no for the obvious reasons, but if Witherspoon had it her way she would be able to play the “Drunk in Love” singer.

Witherspoon voiced her love of Beyoncé, which turned into a funny moment out of some harmless hyperbole. Witherspoon sat down with actresses Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Felicity Jones, Hilary Swank and Patricia Arquette for the Hollywood Reporter‘s annual actresses roundtable. These interviews happen with different groups from the industry that are considered this year’s groups to watch in the coming season in terms of awards.

The moment came when the ladies were asked who they would love to play. Witherspoon was the only one to respond, and said she would love to play Beyoncé. Adams perked up and said of the Queen B, “I just want to be her.”

Although the hour long conversation had some laughs, there was one topic that came up that was no laughing matter. The ladies took on the criticism that Renee Zellweger had to endure when she made a recent red carpet appearance looking nothing like her Chicago days. Witherspoon immediately jumped on this and didn’t mince her words when discussing just how damaging this kind of criticism is to women.

“It’s cruel and rude and disrespectful. It bothers me immensely… I know this is so Pollyanna of me, but why — and it’s particularly women — why do they have to tear women down? And why do we have to tear other women down to build another woman up?”

Witherspoon continued, “Like, this one looks great without her makeup but that one doesn’t look good without her makeup, and it’s all just a judgment and assault that I don’t — look, men are prey to it as well. I just don’t think it’s with the same sort of ferocity.”

Witherspoon is currently promoting the film Wild, which is based on the real life memoir by Cheryl Strayed, who following the tragic death of her mother, spiraled into a life of drugs and promiscuity. In an effort to find herself and reclaim her identity, Strayed decides to hike on the Pacific Crest Trail.

Wild comes out on December 5, which is perfect timing for Oscar season.
