Actress Sharon Stone Devastated After Beloved Nephew Colin Dies From Reported Overdose

Actress Sharon Stone is described by friends as “devastated” after hearing the news that her beloved nephew, Colin Stone, died last week from an apparent fatal overdose of heroin. Colin Stone was only 22 years old, 34 years younger than the 56-year-old star best known for her racy role as a bisexual serial killer in the 1992 thriller Basic Instinct.

Colin Stone was the son of Sharon Stone’s older brother Michael Stone, who is now 63. But earlier in his life, Sharon Stone provided support for her elder brother after he served two years behind bars for possessing a single kilo of cocaine.

“Michael was able to escape a life of drugs,” a Stone family friend said to the celebrity gossip news site Radar Online. ‘Unfortunately, his son was not.”

Colin Stone reportedly died on November 10, in his apartment in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. His body was discovered by the manager of the apartment complex where he was living at the time. The manager was conducting a “welfare check” on the younger Stone, which generally means that a person has not been seen or heard from in an unusual amount of time and does not answer phone calls or knocks on the door.

Sharon Stone currently resides in the movie star enclave of Beverly Hills, California, but she was in Paris when she got the news of her nephew’s death. She has been vacationing there after finishing the filming of her latest movie role, co-starring with John Travolta in the film Life On The Line, which shot in Vancouver, Canada, and is scheduled for release in 2015.

The Stone family released a statement in answer to a request for comment from US Magazine on the death of Colin Stone.

“Colin was a wonderful talented son,” said the Stone family. “Unfortunately he had an addiction bigger than himself. He will be greatly missed. Our prayers go out to all families coping with children facing addiction.”

Sharon Stone, while she has no biological children of her own, adopted a son, Roan Bronstein, with her second husband, former San Francisco Chronicle editor Phil Bronstein. After Stone and Bronstein divorced in 2004, Sharon Stone adopted two more children.

She has not married again since her split with Bronstein.

Sharon Stone began her film career in 1980 with a small part in the Woody Allen film Stardust Memories. In addition to her most famous role in Basic Instinct, Stone has appeared in the Arnold Schwarzenegger film Total Recall and the Martin Scorsese-directed gangster epic Casino.
