WWE Star Sheamus Wants To Play Venom

WWE wrestler Sheamus has declared that he wants to play Venom in an upcoming Spider-Man film.

During a discussion with the Mirror [via Irish Central], Sheamus, who was born Stephen Farrelly, revealed that he clearly wants to follow in the footsteps of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Dave Bautista, and Jason Momoa by using the WWE as a stepping stone to an acting career.

The aforementioned publication asked the wrestler if he held any ambitions to become an actor. After admitting that he would love to step in front of the camera, he then revealed that he thinks he would be perfect as Eddie Brock/Venom.

“I always read comic books as a kid, I always remember Eddie Brock, who was Venom in the Spider-Man comics. He was kind of a red head. I’d love to play the role of Venom and Eddie Brock. Venom was one of my favorite characters. It would be a dream come true for me to star in the next Spider-Man film as Venom.”

Sheamus believes that there is definitely an audience out there for him to tap. In fact, he is certain that he would excel as an actor thanks to the fan base that he has built up in the WWE.

“I definitely think there’s a market for me to be in movies, because of what I’ve done in WWE. I’m recognizable — even if I’m out wearing a hat people always know I’m Sheamus from WWE. I do look distinctive with my red hair and I stand out a lot and I definitely would like to bring that to the movies.”

The 36-year-old athlete, who was born in Dublin, also admitted that he wants to emulate the likes of Michael Fassbender, Robert Downey, Jr. and Hugh Jackman.

Unfortunately for Sheamus, the proposed Venom film that was originally teased back in December 2013 has stalled after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed to achieve the success that Sony had planned. As well as a Venom spin-off film, Drew Goddard was also hired to write and direct Sinister Six, which is still currently planed for a November 11, 2016 release.

It was originally announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would be followed by a third and fourth installment to the franchise in 2016 and 2018 respectively.

However, this has now been adjusted after The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s release, and the third film to the franchise has now been delayed until 2018 while a fourth effort’s release date is currently unknown.
