Free ‘Destiny’ Trial Hits PlayStation And Xbox, New Sparrow For Season Pass Owners

If you’ve been holding off playing Destiny for whatever reason, Bungie and Activision still want you to give it a try. A free trial became available Tuesday to both PlayStation and Xbox consoles with the opportunity to keep your progress if you decide to purchase. Bungie also revealed a tricky new Sparrow available for those that purchase the Destiny Season Pass.

Activision Community Manager Scott Low made the announcement on the Activision Blog.

“Starting today, November 18, anyone can try out Destiny for free as part of a limited-time demo or trial for their current or last-gen console. As part of the promotion, players can create and evolve a Guardian of their own and participate in story missions, as well as co-operative and social activities. Best of all, anyone who purchases the complete version of Destiny after participating in the demo or trial will be able to pick up right from where they left off with their Guardian and progression completely intact, provided they remain within the same console family.”

The free Destiny Trial and Demo is available to download from the PlayStation Store for the PS3 and PS4 and Xbox Store for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The download size is 20 GB for current-gen consoles and 30 GB for last-gen consoles, according to Activision’s FAQ. If you decide to purchase the game on the current-gen consoles, you’ll automatically be upgraded to full ownership. A re-download or disk purchase is required for last-gen purchases. However, you still get to own both the PS3 and PS4 versions of Destiny when purchased digitally on the PS4 and both Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions when purchased on the Xbox One.

The trial is much like the Destiny beta that was available prior to launch. It takes place in the Old Russia area on Earth and allows players to rank up to level 8. There does not appear to be any Crucible multiplayer matches available, however.

Meanwhile, those that buy the Destiny Season Pass will receive the EV-30 Tumbler Sparrow from the in-game Postmaster located in the tower. It is a unique Sparrow available now to those that pre-order the Season Pass that allows players to perform tricks by pressing one of the four directions on the D-pad while in the air. You can check out the video for it below.

“The EV-30 Tumbler features advanced modifications that bypass standard systems, disabling the stabilization and gyroscopic-force dampners designed to you grounded. It’s also got a pretty sweet paint job.”

The first expansion, The Dark Below, will release on December 9. The second expansion pass, House of Wolves, will be available sometime in 2015. The Season Pass costs $34.99.
