‘The Big Bang Theory’ Gets Official LEGO Set

The Big Bang Theory, now in its eight season, has a solid fan base that just grows through the years. Now, fans of the show can get their hands on their very own LEGO set featuring Sheldon Cooper’s living room and the seven main characters, and it was all made possible by LEGO Ideas.

LEGO Ideas is a platform where LEGO fans can submit models. Upon gathering 10,000 supporters, sets become qualified for review and the Review Board chooses which LEGO projects become new LEGO sets. LEGO Ideas was launched in 2008 and since then, it has already released eight LEGO sets.

The latest review period for LEGO Ideas featured six sets including two Doctor Who projects, Jules Verne train, Back to the Future, a Modular Apple Store, and the two winners, The Big Bang Theory, and the LEGO Birds Project. Votes were gathered from January to June this year.

The winners are chosen based on the project information, playability of the set, safety and the overall representation of the LEGO brand. Winners will have their sets manufactured and will also receive 1 percent of the net sales of the set, The Guardian reports.

Alatariel and GlenBricker are the creators of The Big Bang Theory LEGO set. In the Review Results announcement, the set was further described.

“This LEGO set will be a true match made in scientific heaven (well, actually in acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), because the brilliant characters in this popular American TV show appreciate LEGO bricks.”

Glen Bricker said creating The Big Bang Theory set was a “very geeky decathlon” and the concept had all the factors needed for approval.

Glen Bricker also created one of the two Doctor Who sets, which is still under review. It features a Tardis, robotic pooch K-9, three Daleks, and five characters.

The other winning set, the LEGO Birds Project, was created by a gardener in Bristol named DeTomaso, who designed a Violet-eared Hummingbird, a Blue Jay, and a Red Breasted Robin in order to educate children and adults about the birds.

The next collection of LEGO sets are set to be reviewed and they include the Hubble Space Telescope, WALL-E, the firehouse from Ghostbusters, and the mansion from X-MEN.

According to FOX CT, LEGO is still in the process of working on the final designs for The Big Bang Theory and the LEGO Bird Project. The pricing and release dates are to be discussed as well.
