UFC News: Anderson Silva, Jon Jones Fight! Well, Kinda

Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones is by far the most wanted dream match in the history of the UFC. Well, on Monday night it finally happened — sort of.

After their appearances at the UFC “The Time is Now” press conference, both Jones and Silva went to the UFC headquarters and collided in a two-hour long sparring session.

Both Silva and Jones were all smiles after their lengthy sparring session, and Silva was singing the praises of Jones, calling him “f***ing crazy.”

The dream match between Jon Jones and Anderson Silva likely lost a lot of steam after Silva’s two losses to the now UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman. But there’s no doubt that if a fight between Silva and Jones were to be made that it would likely still be the biggest fight in the history of the UFC.

There were reports that in Anderson Silva’s return to the octagon after breaking his leg last December against Chris Weidman that he may take on the former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre in what would be a coming-out-of-retirement fight for St. Pierre.

In the past, UFC president Dana White has been criticized for not making the super-fight between either Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre or Anderson Silva and Jon Jones. The main criticism of White has been that he wouldn’t want to put two of his top “cash cows” in the octagon together, forcing one of them to lose and potentially become less valuable because there’s no longer the argument that the losing fighter may be the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. White has denied that is the reason why these super-fights have never been made, of course.

The UFC president has claimed in the past that timing is one of the reasons that he has never been able to make the Jones vs. Silva fight happen. He also claims that it’s because Silva is a middleweight and Jones is a light heavyweight, even though Silva has fought at light heavyweight multiple times in the past and isn’t that much smaller than Jon Jones.

Regardless of what the reasons were and are currently, there’s a good chance that UFC fans will never get to see Jones vs. Silva and the only people who got to see a less-competitive version of the fight were those who were at the UFC headquarters during the Silva vs. Jones sparring session.
