WWE News: Hulk Hogan Calls Stone Cold Steve Austin A Coward

WWE legend Hulk Hogan was in California over the weekend, promoting the WrestleMania 31 ticket sale festivities and while doing so, he made an appearance on Comcast Sports Net Bay Area. In that appearance, he said some unpleasant things about fellow WWE legend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in hopes to get Austin to come out of retirement and face him at WrestleMania 31 in March.

Austin, who has been retired since 2003, has said in the past that he is not very interested in wrestling the now-61-year-old Hulk Hogan because he feels like the match would be awful. You can listen to Austin talk about why he never did wrestle Hogan and why he still isn’t interested in wrestling him in the video below.

In Hogan’s television appearance for Comcast Sports Net Bay Area, he went out of his way to call out “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, going as far as calling Austin a coward. Hogan said that he wants “to get that coward that’s hiding under the weeds ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin” when he was asked about who he wanted to face at WrestleMania 31, should Hogan be cleared to perform by WWE. Hogan also said that Austin would be fun to beat up and that he would love to “open a can of whoop a** on him.”

It’s been reported that Hulk Hogan wants John Cena at WrestleMania 31, but Hogan has been trying to get Austin in the ring with him for several years, dating back to Hogan’s WWE hall of fame induction the night before WrestleMania 21 in 2005. In fact, the two of them even teased the match in the subsequent years, with Hogan coming to the ring in on RAW in the mid-2000’s saying “what if I got in the ring with that rattlesnake?” and Austin saying before he inducted Bret Hart into the WWE hall of fame in 2006 “I’ve got a can of whoop a** with Hulk Hogan’s name on it.”

According to WWE, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. Hulk Hogan is the number one dream match that never took place. Hogan has been trying to get this match done for the better part of a decade but Austin remains uninterested due to his fear that the match wouldn’t live up to the hype, due to Hogan’s age and immobility.

If Hogan is cleared by WWE to get back into the ring and have one match, it’s unlikely that Austin will be his opponent. But John Cena has made it clear that if Hogan can have one last match that he would like to be the guy that is in the ring with him. So if Hogan returns for a match, it’s likely that he’ll be taking on John Cena at WrestleMania 31.
