Teen Saves Baby Walmart: 11-Month-Old Baby Given CPR By Fast-Acting Teen

A teen saves a baby at a Walmart in Missouri and it has made news around the country this week. According to the New York Daily News, 17-year-old Abby Snodgrass was in a dressing room at the store when she heard an emergency message on a store radio. Not knowing what to expect, Snodgrass exited the dressing room to see what was going on. She said that she went out into the store and saw a baby on the ground — an unresponsive baby whom she said “didn’t look alive.” She jumped into action, not really thinking twice about it — after all, she had the training.

“She immediately ran over to the aisle and found a baby who had stopped breathing surrounded by her panicked mother and a crowd. Snodgrass, who has enlisted in the National Guard, began performing CPR, a procedure she picked up in a health class at Hillsboro High School but had not before used outside the classroom,” reported the New York Daily News.

The teen who saved the baby at Walmart said that she was nervous that her efforts wouldn’t revive the child, but she remained focused on the task at hand.

“I was terrified. I remember thinking as I’m doing the compressions, what if this doesn’t work? But I had to put it out of my mind,” said Snodgrass.

“I put her on my forearm and held her head in my hand and started doing chest compressions with two fingers on her chest. Then I would flip her over onto her stomach, still in my arm, do the ones on the back, then flip her over again and do them again on her chest,” Snodgrass said according to Fox News Insider.

People at the store were so happy that the baby started breathing again, and so were her parents, who released a statement after the incident.

“We are exceedingly grateful to the young woman who helped our daughter. Our daughter is home and healthy, and we couldn’t be more thankful.”

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the baby was rushed to the hospital, where she is said to be doing well.

According to People Magazine, High Ridge Fire District Chief Mike Arnhart said that there is a chance that the baby wouldn’t have survived if it wasn’t for Snodgrass’ action. It is unclear why the child stopped breathing to begin with but everyone is really happy that she’s okay. Snodgrass is now being called a “hero.”
