Russian Robbers Take Over Restaurant, Super-Cool Dude Just Sits There Finishing Lunch

A video of Russian robbers, apparently dozens, taking over a restaurant in a brazen daylight crime went massively viral on Monday, racking up more than 1 million views in its first 24 hours on line. But why? Is a robbery really that interesting?

The reason for the intense interest in the video is probably not the robbery itself but the one young Russian at the center of the frame in what appears to be a security camera recording. Very little information about the video has surfaced online just a day after it was posted. But one thing is certain.

This guy is one cool customer.

Watch the video, above, as a seemingly endless gang of Russian crooks enter this restaurant, which, according to the Russian news site Life News, is actually a club called “Sagittarius,” and the one young man in a striped shirt simply ignores them as if he comes across this sort of thing every day.

Thanks to a flood of YouTube videos depicting seeming insane accidents, crimes and street fights in Russia, the Russians are developing a reputation as a somewhat crazy people. That, perhaps, is why this YouTube video was titled, “Just Another Day In Russia.”

But one commenter, who said he was Russian though he wrote English, says the title gives a distorted view of daily life in Russia.

“We, Russians, also like to joke about ourselfs like that, but events like this not normal at all. It’s already a big news, and somebody probably will be punished,” wrote the YouTive commenter. “Usually thing like this, if they get public, also affects local cops and administration. By the way — it looks brutal, but it’s just four men in hospital, nobody critical. As you can see, they just hit this four specific man in one table, even guard or owner, who try to interfere wasn’t really beaten —just pushed on the ground. [sic]”

According to Life News, the incident happened on September 16 or 17, and two men were arrested in connection with the robbery but later released, while police are now investigating.

But Life News had no information about this guy in center frame, calmly eating his lunch — a man with ice water in his veins, apparently, as all of the other club patrons quickly bolted for the exits.

Some viewers have speculated that the man was actually part of the robbery, some sort of advance scout or inside man. Others wonder, or perhaps hope, that he was secretly a martial arts master, just waiting for one of the Russian robbers to lay a finger on him before he beat the entire gang into submission single-handedly. No one knows, at least not outside of Russia.
