WWE: Sheamus Out Of Survivor Series, Erick Rowan Now On ‘Team Cena’

WWE has announced in what Cageside Seats calls a “storyline update” that Sheamus was injured on last night’s Monday Night Raw and he will be replaced with Erick Rowan on Team Cena.

The development is a strange one considering how Rowan and Luke Harper have been heels since rising to the main roster. Their statuses as henchmen to Bray Wyatt ended recently when the Eater of Worlds “released” them.

Harper won the Intercontinental title on last night’s Raw after defeating Team Cena member Dolph Ziggler.

To go along with the Empire Strikes Back-like beatdown of the “good guys,” Mark Henry put Sheamus through a table. The official WWE website released the following statement as a follow-up on Tuesday.

“WWE.com can confirm that former U.S. Champion Sheamus was taken to a local medical facility in Virginia following his match with Big Show on Raw. The extent of The Celtic Warrior’s injury is undetermined, but it has been confirmed he will not be able to compete at Survivor Series this Sunday.”

Again, this is being called a storyline update and it cannot be confirmed that Sheamus was legitimately injured. But it does open up a number of intriguing possibilities for this Sunday’s pay-per-view.

WWE Sheamus Injured

Firstly, there is the obvious Luke Harper-Erick Rowan rivalry. This has had very little buildup and Rowan is a bit hard to buy as an immediate babyface. As such, some are speculating that he may actually turn on Team Cena and set up a surprise Randy Orton comeback and face-turn, which has been rumored since at least September.

Secondly, there is the question of what to do with Ryback. If Team Cena is selecting Erick Rowan to fill the vacant spot and Ryback is still on “Team Ryback,” then what will that mean for the outcome between Team Cena and Team Authority.

And if Orton does, in fact, return, how will he factor in to the Ryback situation?

Last but not least, if Team Cena wins (as expected) and thus ends The Authority, how is the title picture going to shake out on the road to WrestleMania 31?

After all, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar aren’t just going to be relegated to the back burner.

What do you think of the Sheamus injury update, readers, as well as the subsequent decision to put Erick Rowan on Team Cena? Is this a good move by WWE creative, or an act of desperation?
