Pregnant Occupy Protester Says Pepper Spray Caused Miscarriage

Jennifer Fox, the pregnant protester who was pepper sprayed last Tuesday during an Occupy Seattle protest, says that she had a miscarriage after the incident. Fox said that she was hit twice in the stomach during the protest.

Fox was three months pregnant when she attended the Occupy protest in Seattle. Fox told The Stranger that she was hit twice in the stomach by police officers. She was also hit in the face with pepper spray.

Fox said:

“I was standing in the middle of the crowd when the police started moving in… I was screaming, ‘I am pregnant, I am pregnant. Let me through. I am trying to get out.'”

Fox was taken to Harborview Medical Center after the incident where doctors gave her an ultrasound. At the time, everything was fine with the baby.

Fox said:

“Everything was going okay until yesterday, when I started getting sick, cramps started, and I felt like I was going to pass out… They diagnosed that I was having a miscarriage. They said the damage was from the kick and that the pepper spray got to it [the fetus], too.”

Fox told One Angry Queer:

“It hurts. It’s upsetting. I was ready to have a kid, because my family was going to support me in taking care of the child. Her name was going to be Miracle.”

Fox has not provided any medical documentation so this story may be an exaggeration. A spokesman for the Seattle police department told the Guardian:

“Without any supporting documents, it’s just an allegation. As far as I know this person [Fox] has not contacted us.”

Do you think Jennifer Fox is telling the truth? Did police abuse cause her to have a miscarriage?
